Riserva Poggio al Vento
Denomination: Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
Vintage: 2006
Production area: Montalcino (Siena)
Average altitude: 350 m a.s.l.
Vineyard: Poggio al Vento. Average height: 350 m above sea level. Planted in 1974.
Grapes: Sangiovese, particular clones selected by Col d’Orcia.
Weather conditions: not very cold and rainy winter. The late sprouting was recovered by June. The abundant rainfalls during the spring allowed to overcome easily the summer dryness and brought the grapes to a very balanced ripening.
Vinification: fermentation at a controlled temperature of 28°C. in stainless steel tanks of 50 and 60 hl. The different areas of the vineyard were kept separate. During the maceration, which lasted 20-25 days, daily pump-over and long “delestages” were carried out. Malolactic fermentation took place in concrete. From there the wine went directly into barrels in the spring of 2007.
Aging: 4 years in Slavonian and French oak casks, followed by over 2 years of refinement in the bottle, all of this in a conditioned environment.
Alcoholic strength: 15% vol.
Serving temperature: 18 °
Organoleptic characteristics:
Colour: deep and dense ruby red
Bouquet: ample, intense, and persistent.  The typical aromas of the great Sangiovese are enhanced by the spicy oak hints acquired during the long aging in the barrels.
Taste: the union of power and elegance. The excellent structure envelopes the soft and ripe tannins perfectly balanced with pleasant acidity. Long, structured, and fruity aftertaste.
