Caserecce is part of the large fusilli family and originated in southern Italy. They are a variation of busiata (Sicilian pasta) or busa (Sardinian pasta), both of which were produced on islands in contact with the Arabs.
Caserecce is a suitable format for thick, creamy sauces such as a rich meat or cheese-based ragout, such as cacio e pepe.
