Cuna di Federico Staderini is a name familiar to any Tuscan wine enthusiast. Winemaker Federico Staderini cultivates four hectares on his private estate in Alto Casentino, following an organic and biodynamic philosophy. Three and a half hectares are planted with Pinot Noir, a massal selection from Burgundy, and the remainder with Abrostine, an ancient red grape variety. Abrostine, widely grown in Tuscany during the time of Lorenzo de' Medici and in subsequent centuries, was nearly extinct in the late 1900s and has recently been revived in tiny quantities. Abrostine Sempremai is produced in extremely limited quantities, a maximum of 600 bottles per year. Pinot Noir is known and appreciated for its elegance, complexity, and longevity.
