Vallepicciola is situated in Pievasciata, on the western slope of Castelnuovo Berardenga in the UGA Vagliagli region of Chianti Classico. In 1999, the Bolfo family purchased and restored an abandoned convent that had been unused for decades, transforming it into the 5-star hotel “Le Fontanelle” and acquiring nearby vineyards. Vallepicciola’s symbol is King Franco Berardo, a member of the Berardenga family, who, in the 7th century, was sent by his father to oversee the family’s Chianti estates. There, he fell in love with the land and lived much of his life, establishing a noble lineage that endured for centuries. The estate spans 265 hectares, including 105 hectares of vineyards located at elevations of 380–450 meters above sea level. The soils vary in composition, including clay, blue and calcareous marl, tuff, sandstone, and sand. This diversity gives Vallepicciola wines their distinctive and elegant character.
